Parador de Vielha ★★★★
AccommodationThe state-owned Parador sits just outside Vielha on the N-230, around 2km from the town centre. One of the most complete recovery setups in the valley — indoor and outdoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and spa, plus an excellent restaurant serving traditional Aranese dishes. Generous rooms and a calm atmosphere make it ideal for runners who want rest and recovery facilities under one roof. Book well ahead; it is a popular choice for race crews and families during UTMB Val d'Aran week.
Acevi Val d'Aran ★★★★
AccommodationModern 4-star hotel directly in Vielha, close to the UTMB Village and race start area. Wellness facilities, spacious rooms and a central location make it a first choice for runners who want everything within walking distance. Often booked by elite athletes and race organisation staff. Reserve as early as possible — it sells out months before race week.
Gran Chalet Hotel & Spa ★★★★
AccommodationAlpine-style 4-star hotel in the hamlet of Betren, 2km from the Vielha race village. Quieter than the main town during race week but close enough to walk or take a short taxi. Spa with indoor pool and mountain views — a solid recovery base if you want calm surroundings alongside proper facilities. Good restaurant on site serving local cuisine.
Hotel Husa Tuca ★★★★
AccommodationLong-established 4-star in Betren with an indoor pool, spa and large garden. A 20-minute walk or short drive from the Vielha race village. Good option for runners who want a residential feel away from the expo noise while staying close to the action. The wellness area is useful for pre-race muscle flush and post-race recovery.
Hotel El Ciervo ★★★
AccommodationCentral 3-star hotel on Plaça de Sant Orenç, right in the heart of Vielha old town. Walking distance to the UTMB Village, bib collection and most restaurants on this list. Good value for the location and consistently praised for friendly staff. The most convenient base if you want to minimise logistics during race week — no car needed.
Camping Artigané
AccommodationCampsite and bungalow park in Pont d'Arròs, 10km north of Vielha on the N-230. The most affordable base in the area with good facilities and easy bus access into the race village — the N-230 bus runs regularly and takes around 15 minutes. Popular with campervan runners during UTMB week. Pitches and bungalows fill up; book early.
Uelhs deth Joeu — Artiga de Lin Valley
ActivitiesOne of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the Pyrenees: the Garonne river bursts from the mountain floor in a powerful upwelling spring, surrounded by ancient beech forest. Located in the Artiga de Lin valley, 20km west of Vielha. The walk from the parking area to the spring is flat and easy — perfect for a rest-day excursion without loading the legs. The valley is a Site of Community Importance and genuinely impressive even by Pyrenean standards.
Baqueira-Beret — Summer Hiking
ActivitiesThe famous ski resort 25km from Vielha up the valley toward Port de la Bonaigua runs chairlifts for hikers in July and early August, giving easy access to terrain above 2500m. Good for a gentle pre-race altitude check — the views over the Val d'Aran from the top are exceptional. Keep any walking short and easy: 30–45 minutes on flat trails is enough in the days before your start. The drive up the valley via Salardú is scenic even without getting out of the car.
Musèu dera Val d'Aran
ActivitiesThe valley's main museum on Carrèr Major in Vielha centre, housed in a medieval building beside the 13th-century church of Sant Miquel. Covers the unique history, traditions and Gascon language (Aranese) still spoken in the valley today. A low-key, 45-minute rest-day visit that gives real context to the place you're running through. Easy to combine with a coffee at one of the nearby cafés and a slow walk through the old town.
Salardú — Medieval Village Day Trip
ActivitiesBeautiful medieval village 11km from Vielha at 1268m elevation, worth a short drive or easy cycle during rest day. The 13th-century Romanesque church of Sant Andreu de Salardú contains some of the finest medieval frescoes in the Pyrenees. The village sits at the foot of the Baqueira ski area and the surrounding meadows are at their best in July. Keep any walking flat and short — this is a sightseeing stop, not a training outing.
